Hi, I’m Ryan. Welcome to Lawptimal
I launched lawptimal during my second year of law school at the end of an all-nighter of studying after the realization hit me that I had a problem–one likely shared by many others.
I realized I was usually so busy going 100% most of the time that I was constantly left little time to pursue my dreams, let alone stop and smell the roses.
People pursue hobbies on the fringes of their lives and time. Even when they’re not go-go-go-ing, many people choose passive, potato-relaxation like laying down on the couch in front of the TV, surfing the internet, or tapping into the never-ending swipe-hole on their phones. (I know this because I fall into these traps!).
I came up with the name Lawptimal as a blog based on my interest in law (think “Law-Optimal”), but this blog is all about work and lifestyle maximization. I am always researching and learning techniques to figure out the best ways to maximize my time, energy, free up mental rent, achieve healthier work-life integration, and live my best life possible.
In the end, the common ground between all of the content on Lawptimal centers around (i) making life more enjoyable, effective, and fun; and (ii) my endless search for ways to avoid cleaning my apartment and doing dishes.
Productivity – Materials on planning, time tracking, reflection, managing time/energy, and writing. Reviews of productivity apps and tech.
Law/Business – Researched writing on topics in law and business.
Refresh –Podcasts, bad shots at humor, coffee, and everything else.
If you’re already saying to yourself “Who the heck is this guy, and what does he know about anything? I’m a NASA scientist, a father, coach of youth soccer, and I’ve invented a cure for bone-itis. What, then, could I possibly learn from this second-rate website?”
I would provide you this handy quote from an author of whom I’ve never read any of his work.
“When you stop growing you start dying.” – William S. Burroughs, American writer/artist
